So Wargaming just released a competition where the players have to reply to a few questions. After reading the first one i'm confused, since it is not clear what they mean (i've a degree in history so i see it from a broader perspective).

So, how or what is Wargaming looking here:

a) are they talking about the republican consular armies? When there was only 2 field armies ?

b) are they talking about numbered legions? Initially they were close to 138, but due to the amount of money it costed to field them Octavian reduced their number to 39.

c) Are they talking about the aquilifers or signifers ? This one i don't think so, but anyways.

The question isn't really clear and leaves place to some doubts. Most likely they are asking about the consular armies, hence why they mention 2 armies. Also, if this is the case using the word legion to describe these 2 armies is incorrect since they fielded 15 k ppl each and a legion one fields 5 k ppl, plus some auxiliary units.

I suppose consular armies (early republic): 2 consuls -> 2 legions

the second question (facebook) about the lorica segmentata sets is trickier, because achaeologist found more than 2 sets in a specific place.

Yeah, but they should be more specific.

Also the Lorica segmentata was first worn in Britania.

I'm 99% sure that I have the answer to the second question, but the first one makes me confused.

Teutoburg forest wipeusout.

After the disaster that took place in the 9nth year of our era a lot of the armour remained there and in late medieval times it was rediscovered, which led ppl to think it was armour pieces from the nilfheims and their treasure, since they discovered a lot of gold coins as well.

Well the first question is badly constructed, the second is badly constructed as well, since if we have archaeologists who play this game they will give different replies. I did field work with a couple and they had different opinions about the same stuff, so the second question is also really tricky or lame. Besides there is no 100 % guarantee that Wargaming's reply is correct.

Pliny the Elder in the book Naturalis Historia (X.16) lists five animals.

Ammianus Marcelinus in the Res Augustae lists the number of statues in Rome ;p!

Wargaming should rethink these questions;p!

In Kalkiese (Teutoburg Forest) they found only one armor. The rest was already looted.

The internet is full of conflicting data regarding these questions. They should at least give us an era or some more info. Especially the first question, dear Lord...

Well i m guiding myself by what i read in books, more reliable than the internet. not 100 % bullet proof though, but more reliable than the internet.

The internet is a good place to start looking for something, nowadays, since it provides a lot of information, we just need to filter it. Overall we can agree that the first question is badly constructed...
